About CompareHCM

Independent HCM comparisons for companies with 50 to 2,000 employees. Here is who we are and how we operate.

Our Mission

CompareHCM exists because buying HCM software is harder than it should be. Most "review" sites rank whoever pays the most, and most vendor demos are built to hide weaknesses, not show them. We are an independent, unbiased comparison platform built specifically for mid-market buyers.

There are no pay-to-play rankings here. Vendors cannot buy a better score, a higher placement, or a softer review. If a platform has a weak time and attendance module or a pricing model that doubles in year two, we say so. Our only loyalty is to the buyer trying to make a confident decision.

How We Evaluate

Every platform we profile gets scored on the same six criteria:

  • Payroll engine. Accuracy, tax handling, multi-state capability, and how it handles the messy stuff like retro pay and mid-cycle changes.
  • Workforce management. Time, attendance, and scheduling depth, especially for hourly and shift-based workforces.
  • Usability. What the system is like for administrators, managers, and employees on a normal Tuesday, not in a scripted demo.
  • Pricing transparency. How close the quote is to what you actually pay after add-ons, year-end fees, and renewals.
  • Implementation experience. Typical timelines, data migration quality, and how often projects slip.
  • Support quality. Response times, escalation paths, and whether you get a named contact or a queue.

How We Make Money

Honest answer: CompareHCM is free for buyers, and it always will be. We may earn referral fees when buyers connect with implementation partners through this site. That is the whole business model.

Those fees never change a rating, a ranking, or a recommendation. The evaluation criteria above are applied the same way to every platform, whether or not a partner implements it. If we ever had to choose between a referral fee and telling you the truth about a product, the fee loses.

Who We Are

CompareHCM was built by people who have implemented HCM systems for mid-market companies for 25 years. We have sat on the buyer's side of the demo table, run the parallel payrolls, migrated the messy data, and cleaned up after failed vendor-direct implementations.

That experience is the whole point. We are not journalists summarizing press releases or analysts who have never configured a pay rule. We know where these platforms break because we have fixed them. Every profile, comparison, and guide on this site comes from that hands-on background.
